I didn't have any bread on hand, so I made a loaf of 100% whole wheat bread, which I cut into cubes and, to make it "stale," toasted in the oven at 300 until it was a little crispy. Also, I had two big heads of broccoli on hand that were dying to get cooked, so I cut them into little florets, which I sauteed and used instead of the kale. It turned out great!
